Plein AirEaston! Announces Dates & Updates for 2008
4th Annual Competition & Arts Festival to be Held July 21-27, 2008

It's never too soon to join the thousands of people who celebrate the East Coast's premier plein air event. Organizers for the 4th Annual Plein AirEaston! Competition & Arts Festival have already announced the dates for next year's festival: July 21 thru 27, 2008.

Artists, art collectors, art and nature enthusiasts, students, tourists, local businesses, and spectators alike have discovered that this event truly lives up to its slogan of offering Art for Everyone. The rousing success of the 2007 event, which attracted large crowds and posted 50% increases in sales and dollar volumes over previous years across the board, brought the festival to a new level of excellence. Now is the time to gear up for what promises to be another don't miss event in 2008.

Important Dates
December 1, 2007:
2008 Competition Prospectus released to artists and general public
March 3, 2008: Submissions deadline for entry in national competition
March 24, 2008: Announcements of Competition Artists
July 21-27, 2008: Competition & Arts Festival

The success of Plein AirEaston! has largely occurred because of the talents and dedication of festival organizers and community volunteers who have worked tirelessly to establish the event in its first three years. The 2008 festival will see a restructuring of its organizers. Nancy Tankersley, a founder of the event, will be stepping down in order to focus more on her art and business ventures. Tankersley has been a stalwart contributor to the extensive planning and execution of the Plein AirEaston! She served as Competition Chairperson and Advertising Coordinator for three years. Tankersley, along with her husband, Carl, owns South Street Art Gallery in Easton and The Annex in St. Michaels. She will continue to serve in an advisory role on the event steering committee.

Re: S.2913, the Shawn Bentley Orphan Works Act of 2008

Dear Member:

On May 14, the Senate Judiciary Committee approved some revisions to its version of an Orphan Works amendment. You can see the full text of the bill, as revised, here . In spite of ASMP’s efforts, the bill does not provide even the minimum protections that ASMP considers necessary for photographers, and it is now time for the members to make their voices heard in the Senate.

We urge you to write to your Senators as soon as possible. You can find the name and contact information for your two Senators here . (After you have selected your state, your Senators will be the first two names in the list.) You can find a letter that you can copy and paste, print on your letterhead and fax to your Senators, here . Please feel free to change the wording as you wish.

It will take you only a few minutes to create and send these letters, but they will be some of the best used minutes of your career. Thank you for your support in this important matter.
